Sunshine Minting has refined and struck precious metals in Idaho since 1979, and is one of the few private mints whose rounds and bars are accepted almost as readily as sovereign coins.

The MintMark SI Security Feature

Sunshine coins and bars carry MintMark SI — a micro-engraved security mark that is invisible to the naked eye and appears only when viewed through the mint’s own decoder lens. Tilt the piece under the lens and a hidden image resolves.

It is a meaningful thing on private-mint silver. A government coin carries a sovereign guarantee; a private round normally carries only the mint’s reputation. MintMark SI gives a buyer something to actually verify, which is why Sunshine pieces resell more easily than generic rounds.
