The 1985 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coin, despite being struck 30 years ago, features the highest total mintage of any coin in the series to date. Mexican Silver Libertad coins were first introduced in 1982, with only a 1 oz bullion version available. Today, the coin is available in gold and silver, with silver weights ranging from 1/20 oz to 5 oz. A bullion, proof, and proof-like coin are struck by the Mexican Mint as of 2015.

On the obverse side is the image of Winged Victory. The full-length figure of the angel of independence shows the lady striding forward with her wings spread wide, a wreath crown held aloft in her right hand, and the broken chains of colonialism in her left hand. Engravings include the face value, year of minting, metal content, and purity.

The reverse face of each 1985 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad features the national seal of Mexico. The coat of arms for the nation depicts a bald eagle locked in battle with a serpent. Indicative of the nations struggle for independence against Spain, the bald eagle is battling a serpent from its perch atop a cactus.
