The Design

The American Eagle Program rescued Saint Gaudens’ twenty-dollar Double Eagle design and made it the obverse design of Gold Eagles.

It also displays “LIBERTY” engraved on top, stars representing national states, the year of issuance, and the US Capitol Building.

The reverse showcases a left-profile close-up of a Bald Eagle, highlighting its hooked beak and a staring gaze. It was created by Jennie Norris in 2021 for the program’s 35th anniversary.
