Modern-day Germany and Austria share very close cultural ties as a result of centuries of shared rule. When the Holy Roman Empire was formed during the early Middle Ages, both Germany and Austria fell under its rule. This continued through the dissolution of the empire and founding of the German Confederation. In fact, it wasnt until 1871 when Prussia unified the German states to form the German Empire that the two werent under shared leadership.
The obverse of 2021 Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Silver Rounds comes with an image of the two female allegories seated next to one another. Austria is featured on the left side of the design with a spear in her right hand. Germania is seated on the right with her left hand on the Reichsschwert. The two hold hands at the center of the design, a symbol of the peace and cultural connection of the two.
On the reverse side of 1 oz Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Silver Rounds is an effigy of the mint seal. Similar to a heraldic coat of arms, the design features a quartered shield with unique heraldic symbols in each of the quadrants. The shield is topped by an imperial crown and flanked by an oak wreath.
